Hello Fall!
Hey girl hey!!!
Fall is underway! Are you as excited as I am? My favorite season in my favorite place!
The other day one of my Good Judy’s inquired as to why I’m so obsessed with the changing seasons. It was a legit question because I definitely get into it! Trust and believe the pillow pallet will be rotated, the door step will be redecorated and the weekly menu will be a sign of the times. But why?
When I sat back and thought about it, the answer was actually pretty simple: life. I mean, if we keep it a buck like we always do at NervyMom, we have to admit that life can be pretty fucked up. There’s so much suffering and disappointment that it’s easy to lose your mojo or stumble into negativity. Because we are NOT about that life, I make a big deal about cultivating a positive, peaceful, love charged energy of abundance and joy in the most important space I control: my home.
Also, time seems to literally fly at lightning speed! When you’re focused on getting through the day to day it is tough to stop and take in the present moment. Celebrating changing seasons helps me to slow down a bit to acknowledge the progression of time and refocus on my goals.
You can acknowledge the changing seasons anyway you want – choose executions that are custom fitted to your family and spark joy for you. Here’s a quick example of how like to break down the year and set goals for the seasons:
WINTER: it’s all about holidays, baking, family and planning and setting intentions for a new year (2021, we need you to do better than ‘19 and ‘20)
SPRING: (one of my absolute fav seasons) I focus on inspiring, clean and organized spaces and of course ME and my May birthday (did someone say self care reboot?) 🥰
SUMMER: summer means travel and BBQ in the Alexander household! When we aren’t hitting the road we break out the mason jars, frozen grapes and the grill for festivities with family and friends. Inside the decor is all things cool, fresh and bright.
FALL: For my favorite time of the year I love warming up the decor and planning for fall recipes. Trust – chili and beef stew are on the menu! Not that you can’t eat chili in the summer…but why would you want to?There is just something to be said for a tasty bowl of turkey chili, apple cider fragrance filling the air and a good movie the fire place….I mean, Hello FALL!
Before I end this post I do have one confession: I am ecstatic about experiencing my first Fall in a warmer climate. As a ex-midwesterner, I am accustomed to autumn weather ranging anywhere from cool to bone chilling (Chicagoans, please confirm).
In fact, for us growing up most Halloweens were spent rocking costumes seen by nobody! That’s because in Chicago we had 2 choices: wear your winter coat or freeze and get sick. Then you’d get in trouble for getting sick, because who told you it was ok to take off that coat?!
So imagine how happy I am to raise my kids in a climate that allows them to really show off their costumes! I mean…it’s the little things, right? 🙂
That being said, we’re still figuring out the safest way to Halloween in a COVID world. How is your family handling this Halloween? Are you as here for the Fall as we are? Share in the comments below!
