Dolls…

Summertime is upon us! Here in Georgia, school is officially over this week and a chick is stressed. Since I am a planner by nature, I have to have something set up in order to feel like the summer will be successful. I also believe that with all that is going on in the world (a pandemic and BLM movement), it is so important to spend as much time with your family as possible. All the other stuff, will be there when you go back to it but our family and our time, we can’t miss an opportunity to take advantage of it.

So I did some deep diving into things to do in the Atlanta area with family and I gathered some really good information. My personal goal is to do something each weekend that makes an impact on my kids. Whatever we do, it doesn’t have to be tremendous…like we are not going to Disney world every weekend but we are surely getting out of the house in this warm weather! 🙂 Since there are two consistent months for summer, I gathered eight outing ideas that you can keep in your bag of tricks. Feel free to do the exact same as listed below if offered in your area or something similar.

The goal of this post is to motivate and provide options so hopefully, I can do just that. 🙂 As my family and I check these places off our list, I will be sure to let you all know.

Check out some options/locations below!

Picnic at the Botanical Garden

The Atlanta Botanical Garden doesn’t allow you to bring in outside food and this may be the standard for most. However, don’t let that discourage you, go anyway and purchase food from the cafe located inside the garden and picnic throughout the garden. Bring your own blankets and all else you feel like you may need and just be one with nature. If all else fails, picnic at a park by the lake. In Atlanta, we have Lake Lanier and it is beautiful! As long as you are outside and enjoying time with the family, that is always the goal.

Weekend Trip

Take a quick trip anywhere and everywhere! We are in Atlanta so we are pretty close to Florida, Disney World and the Carolinas. So we have a lot of options for road trips. However, every major city has an area they can drive to partake in a change of scenery.

Drive-In Movie

I love a good drive-in movie…way more than people would imagine as I do not go often at all. I have literally been to a drive-in movie twice in my life. Either way, they are fun, inexpensive and convenient, especially since covid. Since I have a toddler, it may be a challenge but I am open to it. I think that if he can sit in my lap, he will be fine. My 7 year old, she will love the experience. In most drive-in movies, you get two movies with admission but sis can’t stay no one other than my bed that long!

Tiny Towns

Listen, this is for my Atlanta peeps. Here in Atlanta, there is an education park that teaches children starting at age 3 how to drive. Listen sis, I know what you are thinking…a 3 year old driving sounds crazy and it is, however, this is a controlled environment in a motorized go kart and an instructor in a tiny made up town with real stop signs and street lights. You can also ride along with your child. It is completely safe and fun. My daughter is going to LOVE IT!

Strawberry Farms

Here in Georgia, we have strawberry farms. These are similar to pumpkin or apple farms in the midwest. Strawberry farms are perfect for kids and families. You go and pick strawberries, blueberries, blackberries and peaches. Most of these farms also have outdoor activities for children. Most of these activities are tractor rides and a petting zoo. These farms are extremely fun and a must do for the summer. Plan accordingly and wear loose, comfy clothes and shoes.

Aquarium

I mean…the aquarium is self explained. We don’t need to deep dive, find your local aquarium and go there!

Children’s Museum

Similar to the aquarium, each major city has a children’s museum. Take your fam there and enjoy!

Festival – Like a Food truck festival

I love a good festival. If it is a food truck festival, go and eat! If it is a car festival, go and ride and if it is a crafts festival, go and buy some shit up!
